Part of this site was once occupied by a cinema building, The Ritz, which was demolished in the 60's.
Screening our gate provided an opportunity for Langtry Court to tell this story and provide a glimpse into the area's past.
The last film that was shown in the cinema before it was demolished was "Tobor the Great" - a 50's Sci-Fi film.
The image on our gate pays homage to the main character of this movie.
The concept and design of this fabulous panel was the work of Sam & David at Selencky Parsons ( www.selenckyparsons.com ) also based at Langtry Court .
Sam said "We wanted to come up with something a bit more interesting than just going with a blank paneI, something that could add something to that little corner of Brockley. We thought about using some kind of perforated panel instead, which could be more interesting and maybe even tell a bit of a story."
This panel is the result of their research into the history of the site of Langtry Court and we are thrilled to contribute this creative piece to the other wonderful works of art in the SE4 area.
We hope you like it as much as we do.
Best wishes,
The residents and businesses of Langtry Court, Brockley SE4
